Ribbon Weave

The Ribbon Weave block is made up of half square triangles, tri square triangles, and squares. It fits a 2 by 2 square grid layout and the finished block measures 8 inches square. I modified a block called Noon Light many years ago which may or may not make this block of my own creation. :) It certainly is my own name for this block. While every effort is made to be sure of accuracy, I am unable to test every variation. Before you cut up large amounts of fabric, cut and sew a test block or two. Fabrics

*Fabric 1:* Cut 1 strip 2½ inches wide. Subcut into 4 squares. Cut 1 strip 1½ inches wide. Subcut into 8 quarter square triangles using companion/quarter square triangle ruler.
*Fabric 2:* Cut 1 strip 2½ inches wide. Subcut into 6 half square triangles using a half square triangle/side right triangle ruler. Cut 1 strip 1½ inches wide. Subcut into 4 quarter square triangles using a companion/quarter square triangle ruler.
*Fabric 3:* Cut 1 strip 2½ inches wide. Subcut into 4 half square triangles using a half square triangle/side right triangle ruler. Cut 1 strip 1½ inches wide. Subcut into 4 quarter square triangles using a companion/quarter square triangle ruler.
*Fabric 4:* Cut 1 strip 2½ inche wide. Subcut into 6 half square triangles using a half square triangle/side right triangle ruler.

Instructions

Tri Square Triangle instructions

Cut half square triangles from 2½ inch strips as listed in cutting instructions.
Cut quarter square triangles from 1½ inch strips as listed in cutting instructions.
With right sides together sew 2 quarter square triangles together on one of the shorter sides. See below for how many of each type of fabric combinations you'll need.
Press seam to one side.
Match with appropriate half square triangle right sides together and sew ¼ inch seam on long side of half square triangle; press toward half square triangle.

Sew a ¼ inch seam on long side of triangles.
Press toward fabric 3.

Layout pieces as shown in diagram and chain piece block, first rows, then columns, using a ¼ inch seam. Press seams to one side.
