fabric 1Fabric 1: 1/4 yd Cut 2 strips 2½ inches wide. Sub cut into 9 squares and 36 half square triangles using a half square triangle ruler.

Half Square Triangle instructions

  1. Match 1 strip of each fabric right sides together.
  2. Using a side right triangle ruler, cut half square triangles. Move ruler upside down for next cut when necessary.
  3. Sew ¼ inch seam on long side of triangle pair.
  4. Press seam to one side.

Make 36 Half Square Triangles.

Two Patch

Two Patch instructions

  1. Match fabric 2 & 4 thin strips right sides together.
  2. Sew strips sets together using a ¼ inch seam.
  3. Press seams toward fabric 4.
  4. Sub cut strip sets into 36 two patches 4½ inches long.

Make 36 Two Patch units.

Economy

Economy instructions

  1. Match 2 fabric 3 quarter square triangles on opposite sides of fabric 1 square right sides together lining up and centering long side of triangle to a square side.
  2. Sew both triangles to square using a ¼ inch seam on long side of triangles.
  3. Press seams toward triangles.
  4. Match 2 more fabric 3 quarter square triangles on remaining opposite sides of fabric 1 square right sides together lining up and centering long side of triangle to a square side.
  5. Sew both triangles to square using a ¼ inch seam on long side of triangles.
  6. Press seams toward triangles.
  7. Match 2 fabric 1 half square triangles on opposite sides of square unit right sides together lining up and centering long side of triangle to a square unit side.
  8. Sew both triangles to square unit using a ¼ inch seam on long side of triangle.
  9. Press seams toward triangles.
  10. Match 2 more fabric 1 half square triangles on remaining opposite sides of square unit right sides together lining up and centering long side of triangle to a square unit side.
